A piece of Parchment changed her life
Twenty-year-old Karolina-Isabelle Rayngold vividly remembers the moment in which she found a torn piece of parchment in her house, and how that chance discovery led to her learning about her family’s tragic past. Karolina asked her mom what it was, to which she replied “go ask your grandfather”. Her grandfather told Karolina the story of how their family was murdered in the Holocaust. That piece of parchment Karolina found was the only thing that was left of their ancestral bible, which was burned by the Nazis.
Driven by the growing antisemitism in Ukraine and the desire to reconnect with her people, Karolina dreamt of moving to Israel. Thanks to Jewish Agency’s Selah program, Karolina was able to realize that dream.
